How Accomplished Interior Designer and Author Janet Parrella-Van Den Berg Turned Her Hobby into a Career
Born in Holland, having lived in the US, Switzerland and Australia, and now calling England home, Janet Parrella-Van Den Berg’s well-traveled and cultured lifestyle helped propel her to launch her successful interior design business, White & Faded.
Aside from her innate talent and knack for interior design, Janet’s upbringing certainly influenced her love for design and antiques as she grew up in a home filled with museum-quality furniture and décor. After his retirement, Janet’s father opened up his own antique shop that showcased beautiful furniture and décor pieces sourced from Holland, Germany and France, which further harnessed Janet’s interest in the design category.
Early in her career, Janet worked as a photographer in the fashion industry, but after years of doing so, she realized that her favorite part of the job was styling the shoots and creating beautiful scenes. But before pursuing her passion for design officially in 2013, she was tasked with her first design project years prior in the late ’90s when she was approached by an architect to transform an industrial space into a beautiful office. As her client trusted her design direction and gave her a substantial budget to work with, Janet was offered full creative freedom and transformed the space into an office that everyone ended up loving for years to come.
Fast-forward to 2013, Janet decided to take a break from photography and together, she and her husband Dino Parrella, began their endeavor with the White & Faded business, which focuses on the restoration of old homes, furniture and decor. By documenting the design process of their own home through their Instagram channels, Janet and Dino were contacted by a few magazines who were excited to share their story and stunning home renovation.
Since then, Janet and Dino were able to launch their own White & Faded furniture and décor shop, renovate and design an amazing Waco, Texas Airbnb, and Janet published her first book, Beauty Restored, in 2018.
